ChemE Car Competition

E-mail Print

The ChemE Car Competition is always one of the most entertaining events at any conference. Team members design and construct a chemically powered vehicle within certain size constraints. This vehicle must be designed to also carry a specified cargo.

The teams will be told at the time of the competition the distance that the car must travel and the specified cargo that the vehicle will carry. However, we can tell you now that our gym can accommodate the full distance, so plan accordingly. As always, safety is of paramount importance, and entries deemed unsafe by the judges will be disqualified.

The winner will be determined by a combined score, for traveling the correct distance, and for creativity. Teams compete at the regional conferences, and the winner of each regional conference will compete at the national conference. First and second prize winners will receive $200 and $100, respectively, and prize winners from our regional competition will be able to compete at the national Student Conference for a chance at up to $2,000. Important: Changes to Safety Qualification Rules
Online safety training is now available for those teams that did not attend the live safety training at the national conference.  ALL members are required to watch the safety lectures and ALL members must pass the test in order to qualify your team to compete.  If a member of your team attended one of the live safety training sessions within the last 2 years (Nashville or Philadelphia), then your team is already qualified.  More information is available at the link above.
